Macmillan Academy Catering

I have been the Catering Manager at Macmillan Academy for 17 years. In 1989 we fed 175 students per day and employed three catering assistants. At the present time we feed over 1200 students per day and now I manage 25 staff. As you can imagine there have been many changes. We have come along way since then regarding healthy food and beverage choices. We pride ourselves on both the choice and quality that we provide for the students here at Macmillan. The management and service delivery is one of the highest standard and seen by many as the "centre of excellence". Some would say we are a victim of our own success. However, we are not always perfect which is why we value comments and suggestions made by students, staff and parents.

Organic and fair trade products have now been introduced into the main dining hall and also the post 16 Cafe.

Confectionary has been withdrawn as from September 2006. Healthier vended drinks are now available e.g. smoothies, freshly squeezed orange juice, still and flavoured water and milkshakes. Wholemeal bread products are featured daily. Fresh beef burgers are still available; however only appear on the menu once per week.

All the new initiatives comply with the new government legislation. If you have any queries or suggestions I would be pleased to discuss them with you.
