Leading Edge Project
As part of its contribution to the Leading Edge Programme, the Academy is developing the following projects:
1. Collaborations with other schools.
- 1.1. Developing different models of collaborations for the School Improvement Unit of the DfES.
- 1.2. Developing a network of the 9 Leading Edge schools in the North East by holding termly meetings.
- 1.3. Collaborating with another inner city school to develop a completely vocational curriculum at KS4.
2. Leadership Training
- 2.1. The National Leadership College (NCSL) has established a regional structure to deliver its programmes. The North East Affiliated Centre (NEAC) is based in 3 hubs, one of which is at the Macmillan Academy Learning Centre. It is the only school in the country that is part of the Affiliated Centre network.
- 2.2. The NEAC hub at Macmillan:
· Runs NPQH courses.
· Hosts NEAC management meetings.
· Deputy Headteachers course for prospective heads.
· Is setting up a Centre for School Improvement.
3. Development Training
- 3.1. The school is setting up a Mobex - a low cost, mobile expedition centre for pupils in schools and young people in local community groups.
4. Teacher Training
- 4.1. The Academy has implemented a SCITT training course in collaboration with Middlesbrough schools.
