Mobile Phone Policy

This is our policy on the use of mobile phones in the Academy.

Rational

To issue clear guidance for students, parents, staff and governors on the use of mobile phones in the Academy.

Disclaimer

The Academy generally discourages students from bringing mobile phones into the Academy, but recognises that there may be occasions when a parent and student may find their use helpful to them.

The Academy will not take any responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of any mobile phone or similar device brought onto the Academy site. Students who bring mobiles into the Academy do so at their own risk.

Usage

The use of mobile phones should be restricted to calls outside the Academy building.

Students must keep phones in their bag/locker and keep them switched off.

Mobile phones must not be used as calculators in lessons.

If a phone disrupts a lesson, it will be confiscated for the remainder of the day.

Mobile phones will be removed from students during examinations (both internal and external). Any student found with a mobile phone in their possession during external examinations could have their paper(s) discounted.

Text Messages

Inappropriate text messages sent with the intention of causing emotional harm to the recipient will be dealt with in line with the Academy's anti-bullying policy.

Usage off site

The Academy recognises that after the end of the Academy day there may be occasions for health and safety reasons when a student may wish to contact a parent to arrange transport home, etc.

Similarly where parents wish to change arrangements for collecting a student a text message may be sent to the student's mobile.
