What is the Centre for Outdoor Learning?
Outdoor Learning is the key specialism of Macmillan Academy. The Centre for Outdoor Learning is based at Macmillan Academy. It is supported by a range of partners, organisations and agencies providing high quality outdoor education, learning and development.
What is Outdoor Learning?
Its an experiential, practical and vocational approach to learning. Our belief is that outdoor learning includes all learning that takes place outside the classroom, including field studies, residential experiences, outdoor pursuits, educational visits and development training.

- To develop the specialism in Outdoor Education at Macmillan Academy
- To set the benchmark nationally, under the manifesto for learning outside the classroom, for quality outdoor education and learning
- To deliver above and beyond the National Curriculum for Outdoor Adventurous Activities
- To give depth and breadth to the City Academy curriculum
- To provide students with an holistic education
- To deliver a unique, progressive, dynamic outdoor learning programme
